Buy it if

  • You sit for six or more hours a day, every day
  • You run warm and foam seats become unbearable
  • You would rather buy once than three times

Skip it if

  • The outlay has to be justified this quarter rather than this decade
  • You want a padded seat — this is mesh, and it feels like it

Foam ages first in a chair. It collapses gradually over a couple of years until the seat is measurably worse, and no adjustment brings it back. The Aeron suspends you on a woven membrane, so nothing is there to compress permanently. Mesh has no equivalent failure mode, and it runs cooler, which matters if you work somewhere without air conditioning.

Three frame sizes is the part people skip past, and it does more than anything else to win this ranking. Seat depth and backrest height are dimensions, not adjustments, and a chair built around a body that is not yours cannot be adjusted into fitting. Almost nothing outside contract furniture is sold in sizes at all.

The twelve-year warranty is honoured, parts are available decades after manufacture, and refurbishment is a full industry. Used examples still sell for serious money because the market is pricing remaining service life, and that is the clearest durability evidence this category offers.

The objections hold up. It is expensive, the outlay is difficult to justify inside a single quarter, and mesh has its detractors — some people feel the frame edge at the front of the seat after several hours.

Lumbar support differs by configuration, and the version without any is noticeably less comfortable for anyone who needs it. Check which configuration you are buying before you order.
