Buy it if

  • A dorm room, a spare desk, or a second lamp where the outlay has to stay small
  • Even light across a keyboard matters more than color accuracy
  • You want metal rather than the painted plastic at the same level

Skip it if

  • You match paint, thread, or makeup under it — color rendering is the compromise here
  • You need a USB port on the lamp, since this one only takes power
  • The lamp will be repositioned constantly; the base is light enough to shift

The panel is the good part. A diffused strip that wide spreads evenly across a keyboard with no hot spot and no visible bulb, which is the single thing budget lamps usually get wrong and this one does not.

The base is the compromise. It is small and light, so pushing the head forward past the base line makes the lamp want to follow, and you end up steadying it with one hand while adjusting with the other. On a deep desk that never comes up. On a shallow one it comes up daily.

Touch controls cycle in one direction only. Five color temperatures and five brightness steps means overshooting costs you a full lap back around, and there is no way to jump. The memory function takes most of the sting out of that, since the lamp returns to where you left it.

Lepro lists CRI 85 for this head. Against the high-rendering options in this category, whites shift enough under it to matter for fabric, paint, or a face in a mirror. For reading and typing, nothing about the light draws attention to itself, and that is what the score reflects.

Power is an external adapter with a barrel plug, which is a small liability years out. Nothing on the lamp runs off USB, so the adapter is the part to keep track of when the lamp moves rooms.

Plastic joints are where lamps at this level fail, and the head hinge takes all of the wear. Reviewer consensus points at the same hinge rather than the electronics, which tracks with what the lamp is made of.

Buy this one where the light matters and the mount does not. It runs several tiers below what the premium options on this page cost, and the light it puts on a keyboard is closer to them than that gap suggests.
