  • You want a little more battery than the 13 offers

Skip it if

  • A used iPhone 13 costs noticeably less where you're shopping; the gap in daily use is small
  • You need a physical SIM tray; US models are eSIM only

Apple rebuilt the inside of the iPhone 14 so the back panel comes off on its own. iFixit’s teardown called it the most repairable iPhone in years, and in practice it means a shattered back is a routine repair instead of a near-total rebuild. On a phone you’re buying secondhand, that is a real long-term saving.

Everything else is a gentle step over the iPhone 13: the same A15 chip with one more GPU core, a slightly better main camera in low light, and an hour or so more video playback by Apple’s figures. Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite are the features with no equivalent on the 13.

US units have no SIM tray. If a listing shows a SIM tray, it is an international model, which is worth knowing before you assume the warranty or carrier setup works the way you expect.
