Fit is the whole question and it gets decided before the light ever comes on. The bar hangs on a counterweighted clip that sits over the top edge of the panel, so a thick bezel, a shallow lip, or an unusually thin OLED panel each change the answer. Measure the top edge first. Everything below assumes the clip actually seats.

The second question is which USB port feeds it. Plug it into a monitor hub and the light sleeps when the screen does, which is either convenient or maddening depending on whether you read paper at the desk. Look up what the port supplies before assuming a hub will run the bar at full output.

It lights the desk and only the desk. Your face stays where it was, so video calls look no different, and the room behind you stays as dark as it was before. The rear backlight throws a wash on the wall, and how that reads depends entirely on how far the monitor sits from it and what color the wall is.

The top edge of a monitor is contested space. A camera, a light, and a soundbar cannot all live there, and the bar is the widest of the three. If you keep a webcam mounted, plan on moving it or skipping this category.

Motion sensing switches the bar off after inactivity, which works against you when you sit still and read. Owner reports mention waving at the monitor to bring the light back, which is a small thing that happens often enough to notice.

Then there is the controller. A rechargeable wireless puck is genuinely better than reaching behind a monitor for a button, and it is also an object on the desk that needs charging, sold to you by a lamp whose argument was that it takes no desk space.

Read the model name carefully. ScreenBar, Plus, Halo, Halo 2, and Pro are separate products with matched controllers and clips, and the listings sit next to each other. Ordering the wrong generation’s accessory is the most common way people waste money here.
