The temperature readout is accurate at the sensor, and the sensor sits in the base instead of the water, so displayed and actual water temperature differ slightly. The offset is consistent enough to compensate for once you know it is there.

Boil noise is moderate, and the base clicks distinctly each time the element cycles, which carries in a quiet kitchen.
