A round chassis physically cannot reach into a 90-degree corner. The geometry forbids it, however good the brushroll is. Squaring off the front is Ecovacs’ answer, and it works: the dust line that accumulates along walls and in corners comes out noticeably lighter than with a circular machine.

Turning radius pays for that. A square front pivots less gracefully, and in tight hallways or around furniture legs the machine spends more time reorienting than a round robot would. On a complicated floor plan that stretches total cleaning time out, sometimes considerably.

Research app stability before buying, because owner experience splits sharply by generation and firmware version. The X2 line has drawn reports of the app losing connection to the robot, maps disappearing after updates, and scheduled cleans not firing. Most of that is recoverable, and all of it needs someone willing to troubleshoot. Owners who call it reliable and owners who call it frustrating are often on different firmware.

The dock does the full set: empties the bin, washes the mop pads with hot water, and dries them. Its emptying cycle is short and notably sharp in pitch, and that, not the cleaning, is the noise a neighbor hears.

Give it a home with a lot of square corners and hard flooring, where the chassis shape does real work and somebody is comfortable managing an app that occasionally needs managing. A household that wants an appliance to be invisible should buy something else.
