Is it for you

Buy it if

  • You want the longest update runway available in a compact used phone
  • One-handed use matters more to you than zoom
  • You are buying a phone for a parent or teenager and want it patched for years

Skip it if

  • Zoomed photos at concerts or kids' games are a regular thing for you
  • You are a heavy user on a phone that is already three years into its battery

The Pixel 8 gets the same October 2030 end date as the Pro, and that is the whole case for it. Used listings run well under the Pro’s, and for someone who never zooms past 2x, the phones take nearly the same photo.

The smaller battery is the trade. Owner reports put a healthy Pixel 8 at a full day of mixed use, with little margin left by evening. That margin is the first thing an aged battery takes away, so a listing that shows 85 percent health or better is worth paying a little more for.

Google sells genuine replacement batteries and screens through iFixit, which makes the Pixel 8 one of the more repairable used phones at this level. That changes the math on a listing with a worn battery: a unit priced low enough to absorb a battery swap can be the better buy than a pristine one.
