Samsung moved to seven years of OS and security support with the S24 series, so a used S24 has the longest guaranteed runway of any phone on this page. The S23 below it got four upgrades and five years. That difference is about two and a half years of patches for a modest gap in used cost.

Every S24 sold in the US runs Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Much of the rest of the world got Exynos 2400, and those units show up on eBay as international models. Reviewer consensus favored the Snapdragon version on heat and battery, so check the model number: SM-S921U or SM-S921U1 is the US version.

The 3x telephoto is a 10MP sensor, which reviewers found softer than the Pixel 8 Pro’s 5x in low light. For daylight portraits it is fine and the reach is more usable indoors than 5x.

Samsung phones financed through a carrier can carry a Knox Guard lock that activates after resale if payments stop. Ask for the IMEI and run it through a carrier unlock check, not just a blacklist check.
