Is it for you

Buy it if

  • Editing video directly off the drive
  • A machine with a 20 Gbps port to actually feed it
  • Large transfers where sustained write speed decides your day

Skip it if

  • Your ports are USB 3.2 Gen 2, which halves the point of buying it
  • You mostly move documents and photos

Gen 2x2 is the whole story: on a host that supports it, this drive roughly doubles what the T7 can do, and it holds the speed long enough to matter on real transfers rather than benchmarks.

The catch is host support. Plenty of laptops, and every Mac, top out below what this drive can deliver, at which point you have bought headroom you cannot reach.
