Is it for you

Buy it if

  • You want the storage rather than the branding
  • An aluminium body that sheds heat without a fan
  • Mac and Windows both in daily use

Skip it if

  • You want a bundled backup and encryption suite
  • The unremarkable design matters to you

Crucial is Micron’s retail arm, so the flash inside is first-party rather than whatever was available that quarter. In a category full of rebadged assemblies that consistency is the argument.

There is no software bundle to speak of and the industrial design is a rectangle. Both are why it costs what it does.
